NOTE 1:  NEVER LEAVE THE CHAIN COLLAR (OR TRANSITIONAL LEASH) ON YOUR DOG WHEN NOT WORKING ON TRAINING WITH THEM OR SUPERVISING THEM DRAGGING A LEASH (THIS IS A MANAGEMENT STRATEGY I SOMETIMES USE SO THE DOG IS NOT HARD TO CATCH IF THEY START ACTING INAPPROPRIATELY). NOTE 2:  PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE METAL TRAINING ON CORRECTLY EACH TIME BEFORE STARTING TO TRAIN ON THESE.    NOTE 3: YOU CAN USE BOTH THE TRANSITIONAL LEASH AND MUZZLE IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE IN A VERY PEOPLE DOG CRUNCHY SITUATION.  HOWEVER, THAT WILL NOT MEAN LET YOUR DOG DO AS THEY WOULD LIKE.   THE WALKS SHOULD BE STRUCTURED UNTIL YOU REACH A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN LET YOUR DOG GO TO THE BATHROOM OR JUST BE A DOG, IF APPROPRIATE (THERE ARE NO IMMEDIATE DANGERS AROUND FOR HIM TO REACTE BADLY AT). NOTE 4:  I DO ALSO RECOMMEND STARTING THE EXERCISES INSIDE AT FIRST SO YOU GET A GOOD FEEL FOR THE MECHANICS OF THEM.    NOTE 5:  IF YOU ARE HAVING DIFFICULTY WITH SOM...

Week 3 Homework and Maintenance

Behavioral Calming Exercises That You Can Rotate on Different Days: NOTE:  I USUALLY RECOMMEND 1/2 HOUR FOR CALMING EXERCISES AND 1/2 HOUR FOR OBEDIENCE EXERCISES.    IF CALMING EXERCISES TAKE UP THE ENTIRE HOUR, AND YOU CAN'T GET TO THE OBEDIENCE, JUST DO OBEDIENCE THE NEXT DAY INSTEAD. (Example Monday might be Sit on The Dog, Tuesday might be  30 minute Long Place, and so on) Sit on The Dog [ video ]  30 + minutes   Goal:  Is for the dogs to settle in less than 5 minutes in the area you are working in (remember that it can be longer than that, but this is what I look for), and learn to relax next to you.  If you find there is a nice day out, find a low to mid level outdoor area to do this.   Long Place [ video ]  30 minutes   Goal:  To get your dog able to stay on place for 30 minutes and increase the difficulty level gradually (playing with other dog, doing noisy chores,).  You do not have to res...

Week 3 Exit Lesson Notes

Questions At home does Olive nip at you when you handle her? Have you dealt with Olive by avoiding things that trigger her? Can the adult owners usually pick her up and handler her with no problem? Does Olive ever sit with the adults on furniture et? When you bring her for a car ride, is it usually something she finds scary at the end? Observations: What the beginnings were like with Olive (needing to put on the leash with a grab it, needing her to be in the puppy pen to leash her up without her getting away with nipping me.) Olive, as you know, tries to get away with hiding, nipping to biting (but still inhibited) to not do something. Olive is genuinely scared.  She is also a middle aged girl who is used to getting her way.  So she has to both be gently guided along, and pushed sometimes.  Olive seems to like people generally, although she is fearful of people at first (me and Robert in the beginning) Generally, Olive seems to get a lot more accepting of the handli...
